Dr. Deborah Mitchell
Five Star Professional 2014 Award Winner

Dr. Deborah A. Mitchell, PT, DPT, MPT, CGS

Dr. Debbie Mitchell understands how injuries can cause chronic pain and decreased ability to do the things you love. At 18 years old she was in a severe car accident, and it changed her life forever. She went to many practitioners who didn’t understand why her pain persisted after the standard treatments were provided.

She was very frustrated and the pain and headaches were limiting her ability to complete school work, workout, sleep and perform necessary daily tasks. Debbie was even called a malingerer, and was accused of not doing her home exercises, even though she was doing everything prescribed. She was even more frustrated to be dismissed when practitioners wouldn’t even touch her to assess her pain and symptoms. Many doctors would just want to prescribe her medications and send her on her way.

During her healing journey Debbie became a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and tried all kinds of treatments to relieve her symptoms. She was able to meet lots of practitioners along the way. This allowed Debbie to develop her unique treatment approach, and develop empathy for her patients. She understands each person and injury is unique, and needs to be treated as a whole person. Listening is VERY important.

After being plagued for years with pain, Debbie found John F. Barnes,PT and his Myofascial Release Approach. It was the missing link. Finally a treatment that addresses not only the symptoms, but the cause of the pain!

It is both physically and emotionally draining to not be able to fully participate in life. Debbie gets it.  It can be scary to do activity if the end result is more pain. Worry can become paralyzing and fear can limit your potential for recovery.

It doesn’t need to be that way! Debbie has figured out a method to get and keep active adults and athletes to get back to their lives. She offers an alternative to medications, injections and surgery. There are options for you! It has become Debbie’s mission to help people just like you get back on track to living a fully active life.

If you have been plagued with injuries, accidents, and pain that is keeping you sidelined in your life and you are serious about recovery and returning to the activities you love, Red Rock Physical Therapy and Wellness is the place for you!

Dr. Emily F. Rotert, PT, DPT

Before entering her final year of high school, Emily was convinced that she wanted to be a lawyer. However, at the end of the first quarter of the first basketball game of her senior season, an injury would change everything. Emily went down with no one around her clutching her right knee. In the coming weeks she would find out that she had torn her  ACL and meniscus, which would require surgery and 4-6 months of recovery, effectively putting her out of basketball and almost certainly out for track as well, her signature sport.

After undergoing surgery Emily began physical therapy and this journey would lead her to develop a love for the profession and inspire her career. Together with the help of the therapist, Emily was able to get back for the last two meets of track and participate in the State Track Meet her senior year of high school, placing in the 4×800 meter relay. Her injury also led her to choose Concordia University Nebraska for her undergrad and participate in track and field. During her collegiate career Emily was an NAIA All American in the 400 meter hurdles, 4×400 meter relay and the 4×800 meter relay.  Her involvement with collegiate athletics further confirmed her career choice of physical therapy. She went on to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating in 2012.

Her own experience through physical therapy taught her a new appreciation for helping people get back to the things that they love. Emily found herself with a passion to serve others and was inspired by her own physical therapist who worked hard with her to ensure that she achieved her previous level and beyond.

Throughout her seven years as a physical therapist and working in the outpatient setting, Emily has made it a point to further her education. She has been working with post concussion patients for four years and has completed a year long certification program in Concussion Management. Emily has also completed certification in Functional Dry Needling, which she has found works well with her other manual therapy skills. Emily works hard to tailor each appointment to the patient’s needs, whether you are a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior or never exercised a day in your life, Emily will construct a program just for you, to get you back to where you want to be, doing what you love.
